Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Choose Safety Over Convenience

There are four charter buses and two Calgary Transit buses that bring students to the school every day. To accommodate them, there are two bus-only zones at our school. Please respect these zones by not dropping off or picking up in this area.

We often hear, “I’ll be quick. I am just using the zone for maybe 15 seconds”.  But if every one of our parents/guardians who drop students off used this logic, we would have someone in this zone for 40 minutes every morning. Please consider the larger impact of your driving behaviour within the context of our school community. Set a positive example for your child by respecting the rules and suggestions we make as a school community.

Staff Parking Lot is Off Limits

When students are being dropped off or picked up at the school, parents/guardians are expected to park their vehicle along Whiteridge Way. As per CBE safety regulations, students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the staff parking area. The staff parking area (reserved parking) is out of bounds to students and parents/guardians (including vehicles) at all times.
