Happy Sunday, Grizzly families!

I hope that you have enjoyed a lovely fall week.  This week’s message is a short one.

What a pleasure it was to meet with the members of School Council this week.  Our meeting on Thursday was fruitful as we had much discussion about the council’s bylaws and discussed use of the over $80,000 of casino funds raised last spring. Council meetings give parents and guardians a chance to learn more about the school and the decisions made to support Annie Gale Grizzlies.  If you aren’t able to attend, please check out the council page on our website.

Did you know?

  • NEW:  Congratulations to both of our soccer teams who won their final games and their championships!
  • NEW:  SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK is this week.  Check the calendar below for information about our dress up days.  Students are welcome to dress up for Halloween, noting that our regular dress code is still in effect.  This means that weapons and inappropriate sayings or pictures/logos are not welcome.  If students want to dress up but do not have a costume, they are welcome to wear black and orange.  Dress up for school spirit week is always optional, though we are hoping that students and staff use school spirit weeks for a way to connect to the overall Grizzly community and have some fun at the same time.
  • NEW: 20% of our students report that they only read once a month at home.  20% report that they do not read at home.  We know that most successful adults are readers.  We ask that parents support their students by bringing and keeping literacy in the home.  You can do this by bringing your children to the community library, having things to read at home (the newspaper—yes, even online—books, magazines, etc.)  How about adding some quiet time each day, such as 15 minutes, when all family members put down their electronics and read?  This is a perfect example of how home and school work together to support student achievement!
  • REPEAT:  Parents and guardians have responsibilities to support schools.  Demographic verification forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes.  If forms are not in, we risk not receiving adequate funding for your child.
  • REPEAT:  Due to the large number of outside visitors (parents/guardians and student fans) we no longer will allow entrance to our Annie Gale Alumni, or former students.  If you have former Grizzlies in your home, they are only able to attend games if their parent/guardian is with them.
  • REPEAT:  As the weather starts to get colder, we will be hosting more lunchtime clubs.  Students can check the TV in the foyer for more information, but I will also include clubs in our weekly events below.
  • NEW:  Our next council meeting date is Monday, November 18, at 6:00 pm.

Secretary role: The school council secretary typically acts as a recorder at each meeting and ensures that the meeting minutes are prepared accurately to reflect the directions agreed to at the meeting. They can be handwritten at the meeting and then typed up and sent through email to the executives to view. This is a single volunteer position and only requires an hour and 30 minutes of your time once a month.
