Weekly Update: June 15 to June 19
Happy Sunday, Grizzly Families!
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated two additional teaching positions for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
CONNECTING HOME AND SCHOOL: Balancing Relaxation and Structure Over the Summer
After a busy school year, summer offers a welcome chance for students to relax, recharge, and enjoy a break from routines. While downtime is important, maintaining some structure can help young adolescents stay engaged, responsible, and prepared for a successful return to school in the fall.
A balanced summer doesn't require a strict schedule. Instead, consider creating a simple daily routine that includes regular sleep times, household responsibilities, physical activity, and opportunities for reading or learning. Predictable routines help teens develop independence while still enjoying the freedom that summer provides.
Encourage your child to set a few personal goals for the summer, such as learning a new skill, volunteering, completing a creative project, or reading a certain number of books. These goals can provide purpose and accomplishment without feeling like schoolwork.
Most importantly, leave room for fun. Time spent with friends, family activities, outdoor adventures, and unstructured play all contribute to healthy development and well-being. By finding the right balance between relaxation and responsibility, families can help students enjoy a rewarding summer while building habits that support future success.

DID YOU KNOW?
NEW: From our School Nurse
Hello, Annie Gale School Community.
Our school vaccination team from Village Square Community Health Center will be visiting Annie Gale School again on Friday, June 19th. We will primarily be seeing students in grade six; However, we may also see students in grades 7 & 8 who are both due for immunizations and who have a valid consent on their file. This may include immunization consent provided in previous school years, or while registered at another school within Alberta. We do not vaccinate any child without consent from a legal parent/guardian.
If you have provided consent for your child's immunizations and there have been changes to your child's health status, please contact the school immunization team at 403-944-7000.
If you have questions or concerns about your child's immunizations, please contact the school immunization team at 403-944-7000.

NEW: The first day of the 2026-2027 school year for Grade 6 and Grade 7 students is Monday, August 31. These students will enjoy a BBQ lunch (vegetarian or beef burgers, a drink, and chips) and among other welcoming activities, will have tours of the school and school grounds to settle them in their new surroundings. All Grade 6 and 7 students will meet in Annie Gale’s gym for an 8:00 a.m. start. TLC students will be escorted to their homeroom classrooms housed at Colonel J. Fred Scott School, by their homeroom teachers.
Grade 8 and Grade 9 students’ first day is Tuesday, September 1. Class lists will be posted near the front of the school, and students will be directed to their homeroom classes.
NEW: If your child is returning to Annie Gale next year and is in the TLC program, be aware that fnext year we are expecting students who wear the TLC tartan kilt to also wear bicycle shorts underneath their kilt, as per the uniform guidelines provided by the TLC. These can be purchased through McCarthy’s, like all other uniform pieces.
REPEAT: Our school’s upcoming modernization will result in some changes for next year’s programming. All students will have a mandatory complementary course rotation with their homeroom, with each course lasting approximately two months. All TLC students will have French as a Second Language course daily in one semester only; for those students, the other semester will be for their complementary courses.
REPEAT: During the last two weeks of June, we participate in a uniform donation drive for TLC students. If your child has TLC uniform pieces to donate (crested shirts, cardigans, vests, and/or ties) we will happy take them to help families in the fall. This means that TLC students are not required to wear their uniforms during the last two weeks, should they donate unused uniform pieces.
REPEAT: It is Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) time for Grade 6 and Grade 9 students. Please check the calendar shared in the weekly update for accurate information about tests. Security of these exams is important, so we will be following appropriate protocols set up by Alberta Education. Though students are not permitted to have their phones on their person during a regular school day (phones should stay home or be stored in lockers), phones and Smart Watches are significant breaches of exam expectations. Please remind your child to adhere to exam protocols. And another important note is that students who take exams in the morning are expected to attend in the afternoon.
REPEAT: Our June School Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m., is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) when new members of the council will be voted in. If you know parents/guardians at our feeder schools who will have students in Annie Gale next year, please let them know. We shared messages with the parents/guardians in our feeder schools, but a personal invitation is always helpful. If you have never participated in School Council, consider now a time to get connected and join. Council is a meaningful way for you to positively affect your child’s educational experience and will allow you to learn more about the school and have a voice in decision making. Our meetings average about 60-90 minutes every month. This all-important AGM will be held in-person because of the voting that will be taking place. You are welcome to attend virtually, but you will not be able to vote if you are online.
