Weekly Update: January 6 to January 10
Happy Sunday, Grizzly families!
Happy New Year! I hope that 2025 brings joy, health, and happiness to you and your families! We are looking forward to getting back into the routine of school. Help your child out tonight by asking them to explain to you what they need to do tonight and tomorrow to be ready for school (lunch, clothes, alarm set, etc.).
Welcome to Mr. Erickson, who is taking over for Ms. Abu Farhah and Mrs. Easton. In December we said a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Abu Farhah for filling in for us. We wish her well in her new endeavours. We will provide more information about Mrs. Easton’s absence when we know more.
CONNECTING HOME AND SCHOOL: To continue with our messaging about reading, consider the many benefits resulting from reading 20 minutes or more a day. Reading 20 minutes a day exposes a person to 1.8 million words in a year. Reading can relieve stress by 68% in a lot less than 20 minutes. Taking 20 minutes to read every day can boost mental health. Reading slows down mental decline in late stages of life. Reading 20 minutes before bed can alleviate insomnia. Become a more empathetic person by reading 20 minutes a day.
Did you know?
- NEW: We love hearing from parents and guardians and appreciate calls to share information about absent or late students. We appreciate you using the absence line to record attendance information—leaving us a message ensures that we receive the message and assures you that you will never be put on hold. We have a busy office and using the attendance line is one way to streamline your communication with us.
- NEW: In December we donated many clothing items from our lost and found. Even though we reminded students for over a week about checking the lost and found, in December we donated many unclaimed clothing items. Help lost items return to your child—label clothing items with their names.
- NEW: Report cards will be coming out at the end of January. Stay connected through this weekly update and we will provide more information throughout the month.
- REPEAT: We have many new lunch clubs up and running. Students can check the monitor in the foyer for the information about the days and times for each club. Some of our current clubs include Board Games, D&D, Fitness, Anime, Chess, and Art. Clubs provide our students an opportunity to try new things and potentially find a new passion, meet other students, sometimes in different grades or programs, have some fun, exercise and have something enjoyable to do on a cold day.
- NEW: January’s Fun Lunch is coming up. Log in to Healthy Hunger to participate. Remember that the final sale for Fun Lunch is the Saturday preceding the date of the lunch.
- REPEAT: Our next school council meeting is on Tuesday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m. We will continue with a blended format of in-person and online. The link for the online meeting will be sent the afternoon of the meeting date. I urge you to attend—learn more about the school and include your voice in the dialogue.
- NEW: Update your calendars and include the next few school council meetings. The dates are Wednesday, February 19, and Wednesday, March 19. All meetings start at 6:00 p.m. and will be a blended format, except for our Annual General Meeting later in the year.
