Weekly Update: January 20 to January 24

Happy Sunday, Grizzly families!

Family Literacy Week is coming up.  Stay tuned for more information.

CONNECTING HOME AND SCHOOL:  Last week I shared some information about sleep, and I thought that I would continue on that topic for you to consider.  I found some information from the American National Sleep Foundation, which shared the following recommendations:

  • 9 to 11 hours for 6- to 13-year-olds
  • 8 to 10 hours for 14- to 17-year-olds
  • 7 to 9 hours for 18- to 25-year-olds

They also state that an average of nine hours of sleep per night has been shown to be best for peak mental health. While young people differ in the amount of sleep they need, almost no adolescents were in an optimal daily mood with less than 7 hours or more than 11 hours of sleep. However, younger adolescents and those already experiencing mental health issues may require more sleep than the average.  (Retrieved on January 19, 2024, from:  https://sleephealthjournal.org/article/S2352-7218%252815%252900015-7/fulltext

For parents and guardians of Grade 9 families:

Below is information about open houses for other high schools in our area. If your student will be attending one of these schools, we highly recommend families attend these sessions for important information.  We also suggest that families do research on the website for the high school that you are interested in learning more about.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Boyd, Learning Leader for Student Services, or your student’s homeroom teacher at (403) 777-7680.

If you are moving, the student must register for their current designated high school and then apply for a transfer to the high school of your new area.  To change your address with the CBE you must present two pieces of proof of address. (Eg. Electrical bills, cable bills, house insurance, etc.)  A driver’s licence is not an acceptable proof of address.
