Weekly Update: December 1 to December 5

Happy Sunday, Grizzly Families!

It wasn’t too long ago that I discussed the change in weather, and it came to pass this last week.  Students and staff struggled to get here on time on Monday with the road conditions being what they were; however, as the week progressed, we still saw many students arriving late.  On Wednesday, for instance, it took the office/admin 15 minutes to finish processing the long line of students who were late for their first class.  Please do your best to ensure your child can be at school, in class, by 8:00 a.m. We thank you for your support!

CONNECTING HOME AND SCHOOL:

Each month we use the CBE Dates of Significance calendar to highlight important cultural dates, which we share with students on the daily announcements and on the screen in the foyer.  We believe that by acknowledging these significant dates, we give our students the chance to see themselves as a part of our school community and learn about others.  By embracing our differences, we help students build empathy, appreciation, and a stronger sense of belonging for everyone in our school community.  Take some time each week to talk with your children about not only similarities but differences with others, and how that makes our school and our community vibrant and strong.  These conversations support these components of our COURAGE model:  CARING; UNIQUE; ACCEPTING; GRATEFUL; and EXCELLENT.

DID YOU KNOW:

NEW:  The school’s parking lot is always off limits to families to pick up and drop off students so that staff can safely park in their assigned spaces and limit the amount of traffic.  This is especially important when we have snow—each snow season we must help parents to dig their cars out of the snow drifts we get, so their wishful, “If I drop off quickly, no one will be the wiser” is far from true.  Please—stay out the the staff parking lot at all times.  We appreciate it.

NEW:  If you have not already done so, please watch this 90-second video, which explains a little more about our upcoming casino and the support it will provide our school.  After watching, we hope you register as a volunteer. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TZr_oguUpdZZTbpsMLpvpp9rXA0vFshm/view?usp=drive_link

NEW:  Picture retakes are Thursday, December 11.  If students were absent on our original picture day, then this is the day they can have their photo taken.

REPEAT:  Our Grizzly Den planning committee is interested in collecting magazines from families for an upcoming project.  If you have any magazines at home that you are willing to donate, please send them in with your child and we can collect them in the office. Thank you!

UPDATE:  Our next School Council meeting is Monday, December 15, at 6:30 p.m.  The time has been adjusted slightly, with a 6:30 start.  The meeting will be in-person, with a special twist.  Please refer to the message from School Council at the end of this message.

REPEAT:  Being at school on time matters!  Annie Gale has a late policy to encourage students to be on time for their classes.  We know that late students miss out on important learning at the beginning of class, and we also know that late students interrupt the learning and teaching of the class they enter.  We also know that “life happens” and there are many things that can affect our ability to be at school on time, so we provide two “freebies” each month to students who arrive late to school.  Our late policy is set for mornings and after lunch.  Each month if a student is late three times they will serve a 20-minute detention at lunch.  If they are late a fourth time, they will call home to notify their parents and inform them that they will serve a 30-minute detention. Should they be late again, parents may be asked to come into the school to problem-solve with administration.  Our goal is academic success for all, so we thank you for supporting this policy and encouraging your child to be on time for school.  The more time spent in class, the more time students have to learn!

Tickets are a steal of a deal at $6.00 for one ticket and $10.00 for two.  You can also buy them by sending us an email below. Please RSVP by Friday, Dec 12, to our email or text the number provided below if you’re coming and also if you’re bringing a snack item so we can plan accordingly. I'm excited to meet you all for a fun, festive night.
